在台灣學校，鮮少有教中文履歷撰寫，更不要說精緻包裝，而背包客到了國外，著手寫英文履歷，若思考邏輯和中文一樣，那就表示還沒自行上網查詢英文履歷的撰寫方式，不然就是看了也參不透其中奧秘，即使知道中規中矩的resume怎麼寫，如果只用書面的方式遞交，在這影音的年代似乎有點太遜，當背包客的人，多多少少都有點瘋狂異於常人的想法，怎麼寫出突顯個人特色的履歷，也許看官可以在這找到一些想法。

正式英文履歷分為兩部分，履歷表resume/C.V.(curriculum vitae)和求職信cover letter。

背包客的履歷表大多簡單，應徵的職位通常也不太困難，應填得項目其實也不多，如參考以下。

有些人會把自傳(autobiography)和cover letter當成同一個東西，這是錯誤的聯結，cover letter比中文所說的自傳要簡單許多，內容也很不一樣，cover letter簡潔扼要的說明1.得知工作的管道2.應徵原因3.個人適合該工作的理由/特質或是個人企圖心，最後並客氣地請求人資/主管閱讀履歷，並給與面試的機會。而自傳(autobiography)某些內容屬於比較私人的東西，像是家庭背景、結婚與否、是否有小孩，這些私人的訊息基本上也不須透露給雇主，在美國曾經有雇主問應徵者是否有小孩而遭拒絕回答，非關工作，雇主不可亂問，西方社會的邏輯是很注重個人隱私。

Cover letter簡單的範例如下，以應徵waitress為例

Thanks for your consideration first.  I am interested in applying for waitress which is posted on website, and would like to enquire about the possibility working as a team member.

I am an active and responsible person and love to take challenge in Job. As my resume shows, I had an experience of working in Yellowstone National Park in U.S.A where I learned how to be an excellent waitress and how a restaurant runs. The most of important thing is I love to serve people and love to see customers smiling after a satisfied service.  Therefore, I would be very happy to ‘muck in’ and tackle any tasks required in this company.

To sum up, this job information would give me a chance to take challenge, which I really enjoy, and also hope I will be your first priority. Resume attached for your reference.  Any further request, please feel free to let me know and I will be glad to offer any information immediately.

說起來，寫出中規中矩的英文履歷其實也不難，只是那些不屬於西方社會的個人隱私部分請省略起來，人家是要知道您工作上相關的特質，不是想知道您祖上十八代的豐功偉業，因此盡量寫與工作相關的項目。

除了這些很正式的履歷外，現今有愈來愈多人用作品、影音當作履歷，應徵澳洲大堡礁工作之類的，所以在當背包客期間，也可交付給自己一個功課，做出獨一無二的個人履歷，方式千千萬萬種，比如以下：
